Review: The Everyday Catholic’s Guide to the Liturgy of the Hours

The Everyday Catholic's Guide to the Liturgy of the HoursThe Everyday Catholic’s Guide to the Liturgy of the Hours by Daria Sockey
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Despite suffering from a lack of awareness, the Liturgy of the Hours (or the Divine Office) is a large and significant party of the liturgical/spiritual life of the Church, and, therefore, of all the members of the Church. It is not, as is commonly thought, the sole province of clergy and religious!

This book provides a very accessible and basic introduction to the Liturgy of the Hours, its structure and components, and how to pray it. For those who have heard about this liturgical form and are wanting to know a little about how they might incorporate it into their life of prayer this book represents a very handy way of getting to enough to begin the journey of praying the Liturgy of the Hours and sanctifying each day through liturgical prayer.

The author provides some wonderful suggestions for the beginner, as well as resources to assist those who are exploring this form of liturgical prayer or who, having explored, are seeking to journey a little further along the path.
