Review: Lamentation

LamentationLamentation by C.J. Sansom
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another masterful mystery has been created by C.J. Sansom, featuring the by now well-known group of characters that have been our constant companions throughout the books of the Matthew Shardlake series.

Set in the period towards the end of the reign of Henry VIII, amidst the continuing and increasing religious turmoil being experienced by the English people, this story again sees Shardlake drawn into matters of high politics. There is a surprising ending to the story which, at one point, might be seen to bring a crushing end, but the way is left open for the characters to return in another volume (I hope!).

A thoroughly enjoyable and engaging story which, as I have mentioned before, I’ve been drawn to because of the historical period in which it is set.
