Making Sense of the Data

Yesterday the Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Australia released the annual Mid Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO), a sort of half-year report card on Australia’s economy. Although MYEFO contains a lot of data, lots of figures, it is not a purely financial or economic document – it is a political document, designed by the government of the day to prosecute the case for ongoing government policy.

And that is true regardless of which particular political party is in power.

The ABC’s Chief Economics Correspondent, Emma Alberici, has this explanation that attempts to remove the partisan politics from the conversation.
