Yesterday the Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Australia released the annual Mid Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO), a sort of half-year report card on Australia’s economy. Although MYEFO contains a lot of data, lots of figures, it is not a purely financial or economic document – it is a political document, designed by the government of the day to prosecute the case for ongoing government policy.
And that is true regardless of which particular political party is in power.
