Continuity and Rupture

Drawing on the publication of a recent essay, Massimo Faggioli once again insightfully comments on the nature of the divide between “traditionalists” and “progressives” within the Church, particularly the American iteration of the Church.

The phenomenon on which Faggioli comments is an intriguing one, and one that while primarily an American phenomenon, is also finding expression in other non-European Western nations.

Some will argue that it is an important disagreement that requires a resolution. My concern is that while these disagreements take place within the CHurch, the Gospel remains unpreached…and the Church has already failed to live up to the mission that is entrusted to her by Jesus, and the reason for which the Church exists.
