Review: The Portuguese Affair

The Portuguese Affair (The Chronicles of Christoval Alvarez, #3)The Portuguese Affair by Ann Swinfen
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

There were times during the reading of this book that I wondered about the significance of parts of the narrative, and why our title character had been drawn via that narrative into some of the events of the year under question. I shouldn’t have worried; all was revealed at the end.

The most encouraging part of the narrative, on the other hand, was hearing some more of the backstory of our primary character, a backstory that is in itself both shocking and elucidating. It will, no doubt, provide context for future storylines.

Our author, Ann Swinfen, provides another historically based narrative, though, as I’ve mentioned already, at times a little disconcerting to the reader. That being said, however, the fault could very well sit with this reader rather than our author.
