Why does the current federal government appear not to trust the independent public broadcaster, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation? Van Badham, writing for The Guardian, seems to suggest, very convincingly, that it is because the current federal government appears to frightened of public scrutiny.
At the end of her article, Badham makes this rather telling assessment:
…this is what the Liberals’ ABC obsession truly reveals. If you’re too challenged by youth radio, too delicate for a bit of mockery, too scared of a few hard questions, you’ve got no business trying to lead the Australian people. This country deserves leadership with more spine than that.
And I would tend to agree.
