That Time May Cease by Ann Swinfen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Another wonderful tale that sees Dr Christoval Alvarez, Physician at St Thomas’ Hospital, drawn into matters of intrigue, of state, and things she would rather not be involved with. Maintaining the ongoing pretence of playing a man in order to practise the art she had learnt at her now dead father, Kit both revels and is revulsed by aspects of London life in the 1590s.
As has been the case for all of the Alvarez novels, Anne Swinfen readily mixes historical happenings with narrative flair to weave a story that captures the attention of the reader and holds it until the very last page. I am becoming quite the fan of her narrative approach, an approach that pays homage to the historical background but is firmly rooted in the lives of the characters she has developed so lovingly over the course of the series.
Very highly recommended.
