What Are You Looking For? by Joan Chittister
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
The ever-changing nature of religious life in the Catholic Church is brought to the fore in this contribution from Joan Chittister. Having herself lived religious life for six decades, Chittister has much wisdom to offer for those who have questions about the future of religious life and whether religious life is something for them.
Indeed, the whole book is framed as a series of questions. They are the kind of questions that someone enquiring about the appropriateness of religious life for them might, in fact, ask. In framing her reflections thus, Chittister opens the possibility of exploring the reality of religious life as it was lived in the past and as it is being lived now by so many people.
Chittister’s worldly and spiritual wisdom combine in this book on a subject that both fascinates and challenges contemporary society. In making this offering, Chittister invites the reader to consider the true nature of religious life in this day and age, and what it still has to offer to the world.
